A riparian walking tour of Shrewsbury. Led by Penny Ward & Roger White
One of the reasons why Shrewsbury is such a well-preserved medieval town is that it is constrained by the banks of the river Severn. This walk will take us first along the River Severn into Longden Coleham, a former industrial suburb of Shrewsbury encompassing the extant steam-powered sewage pumping house, the site of Hazeldine’s iron foundry, a converted brewery and the site of a lead works. Crossing at Porthill bridge we will then follow the river bank on the Shrewsbury side to Castlefields beyond the railway station, cross at the weir and then back to Abbey Foregate over the site of the old Gay Meadow football ground. The walk is on level ground so, unlike Shrewsbury, you won’t be toiling up hills.
4:00 Finish

Booking is essential – please return the form or book online at Eventbrite.
